About The Band
Chris Arthur
Lead Vocal & Rhythm Guitar
Chris was born and raised in the fast-paced, ever-growing S.F. Bay Area. He quickly discovered his passion as a musician around age 13 after picking out his first acoustic guitar from a flea market while on a family vacation in Mexico in 2004.
In February of 2020 this singer/songwriter, growing hungry for a fresh project of original hard rock music, called out to friends and past acquaintances who now collectively embody the soul and creative backbone of what they proudly call Against the Storm.
Embracing a baritone vocal range, revealed to him in 2010 by his college music professor, Chris' clean yet powerful timbre shines through his dynamic low to mid-range singing style.
His favorite weapon of choice, an '07 Gibson Explorer fittingly named “Excalibur”, is among his line up of various guitars you will see him wielding when laying down those pleasant, sparkling cleans or deep crunchy riffs.
Some of his top musical influences include: Tremonti, Alter Bridge, Trivium, Avenged Sevenfold, Metallica & Iron Maiden,
among many others.
Yuriy Goldman
Lead Guitar
Yuriy was born in Kharkiv, Ukraine, and has been living in the East Bay Area since the age of 10. He discovered an interest for music at the age of 13, getting his first guitar, and Ibanez GSA 20 electric, on his 14th birthday. This interest quickly developed into a passion that he has continued to pursue since.
Yuriy employs a practical approach to creating music which prioritizes the idea of "serving the song". He enjoys incorporating unusual elements into his songwriting and likes to work influences from genres other than rock and metal into his songs, whether subtle or obvious. His top priority is to make songs that others can enjoy.
His instruments of choice are mostly PRS guitars of different kinds, including 7 string and baritone guitars. He likes to take advantage of the full range of the instruments, including extended range, so you will sometimes see him play two types of guitars in the same song to fill the sound spectrum of the mix.
Some of his musical influences include Metallica, Megadeth, Trivium, Tremonti, Volbeat, among many others.
Mike Horn
Bass Guitar
Originally from the East Coast, Mike has been part of the Bay Area Music Scene for over 30 Years. Playing in such bands as SCARLETT, LIZZARD KINGS, SEVENTH UNION, and more recently the Bay Area Thrash Metal Band HEXX. During his years with HEXX, Mike traveled several times to Europe to participate in a few of the many Metal Festivals that are popular over there, and released several records on the HRR and Metal Blade labels.
Mike's influences vary, but names Geddy Lee and Chris Squire as two of his biggest.
Mike uses a variety of basses, from the 1975 Gibson Grabber he has been playing since his High School Days, to his 1959 Fender Precision and lastly his 2016 5-String Fender Precision, which he uses exclusively in ATS.
Anthony "Rizz" Riso
Drums
Beating down on the skins, you have Rizz also known as Anthony Riso Jr.
His musical journey started at the very young age of 7 when he got an opportunity to sit in at a practice for his dads band playing one of their singles “She Gives Me A Feeling”. That was the moment he knew he wanted to play, write and perform music for others to enjoy. He was pretty much born into it being around many great and legendary local musicians growing up including his own father Anthony Riso Sr., the root to his musical drive. At the age of 15 already having drums as his primary instrument, he decided to learn guitar to expand, enable and release his song writing abilities.
In his early 20’s, '04-'06, he linked up with local metal band Stagnant where they got some notoriety and radio airplay. In early 2007, he moved over to guitar and started writing songs for an upcoming project. That band would later become Seventh Union where he would join up with Rizz Sr and Mike Horn forming their core in 09. After several years with Seventh Union around 2016, he would join forces with musical allies that now call themselves Rose Hill where he remained on guitar. He would in 2018 get back behind the kit to join local reggae phenom WAKANE.
In early 2020, he received a call from old friend Mike Horn, bassist from Seventh Union asking if he was interested getting back behind the kit as a rock drummer and pull double duty. Knowing Mike and Chris, it was an easy decision and the ATS rhythm section was born.
His musical influences range from Breaking Benjamin, RED, Alter Bridge, From Ashes To New, Decyfer Down, Disciple to Avenged Sevenfold and Hollywood Undead. You will witness him playing a custom DW Signature Series all maple shell drum kit with Zildjian cymbals.
